Tinycup is a family-owned coffee roasting company that helps everyday people experience coffee as a personally restorative ritual through small-batch, pan-roasted coffee traditions that honor the Horn of Africa and the Caribbean.
our tenets.
-
we will honor the ancestral gift of coffee.
By receiving coffee with reverence, humility and gratitude, we can learn from the experience, knowledge and traditions of indigenous coffee communities of the world.
-
we will prioritize care, love and attention.
By remembering and anchoring to our love of coffee, we can approach the ways we prepare it (for ourselves and others) with a whole lotta love.
-
we all deserve restorative rituals.
Coffee is both a communal and personal ritual, not merely a routine. It isn't reserved for baristas or aficionados, it's an everyday practice of rest and resistance.

We've collaborated with…
-
small-batch, pan-roasted.
Our small-batch, pan-roasting process allows for a more attentive, hands-on approach to coffee-making that extracts all the unique aromas and textures of traditional coffee-making. We draw upon familial recipes that are indigenous to the Horn of African and the Caribbean to bring a sense of cultural richness, authenticity and history to every cup.
All of this translates into a richer, more flavorful cup of coffee and more intentional experience with each sip.
-
a restorative ritual, personal & communal.
We believe that coffee is both a very personal and communal ritual. It's an everyday practice of indigenous coffee communities around the world that anyone can learn from, appreciate and experience themselves to enrich their own relationship with coffee.
We hope to transform the coffee-drinking experience into restorative, rejuvenating moments of calm to soothe your busy life.
-
single-origin, handpicked.
We source raw Yirgacheffe coffee beans from the rolling hills of southwestern Ethiopia (the "Crown & Glory" of the region) with our neighbors at Abyssinia Specialty Coffee (an Ethiopian distributor in Springfield, VA). Hand-picked—harvested and sorted at the place of origin—each batch is wet-processed to improve acidity and enhance clean floral notes.
We share in the mission to elevate and preserve the distinct traditions and flavors of authentic Ethiopian coffee.
the founder.
Michael J.A. Davis (Founder & Head Roaster) is an award-winning designer, creative director and coffee roaster from Northern Virginia. His professional work is grounded in a commitment to the life, love, and liberation of everyday Black people and communities that have been made vulnerable by systems of inequity.
After 15 years in corporate America, Michael founded Tinycup Coffee in 2023. Its aim to enrich the coffee-drinking experience is rooted in a desire to preserve and elevate the traditions and stories of indigenous coffee communities around the globe.
"i fell in love with coffee, sharing quiet moments with my mother, reliving cherished memories she has of her father. connection to family history & ritual is what tinycup is sharing with the world."
